Is This the Deal
Is This the Deal by The Smivets | Free Download (127 BPM, A min)
Trash-pop, guitar rock and melodic miscellany.
Not so much a band as a bloke with a guitar and a laptop, The Smivets deliver a genre-bending blend of pop, rock, punk, prog and many other monosyllables.
SoundClick artist The Smivets presents "Is This the Deal", a remarkable release in the Post Punk Alternative genre. Produced at 127 BPM, the song carries a relentless tone. It does not contain any samples or third-party loops. A male vocal is a key driving element of this track. The choice of A min lends the composition a slightly moody and reflective character.
The track has a crowd-moving quality that makes it easy to connect with. "Is This the Deal" has peaked at number 2 on the SoundClick Post Punk chart. Find more from The Smivets on SoundClick, a platform built for independent music discovery.
Story behind the song
Based on real experience - when I was recovering in hospital 6 years ago I had dreams that were so vivid and real I can still recall them even now. And yet I can't remember stuff that happened today.
Most probably this is down to the drugs they give you but I wonder if this is what happens when your mind starts to go - you retreat more and more into a dream world until you can't find your way back?
This is the first track to feature the eventually restored Vox V251 organ guitar - a gloriously eccentric piece of vintage electronic madness pictured in my photos section.
Great fun to fix, a nightmare to tune (and a pig to play), but capable of some weird and wonderful sounds from way back in the space age. It's a little back in the mix, but it's there.
Hopefully more soon if it doesn't blow up.
Lyrics
Were those dreams, then?
Is that what they were?
More real than real life
More compelling than theatre
Perhaps they were side-effects of the Propofol
Or maybe the Fentanyl
Or some other stuff that they gave me
Not entirely against my will
I left my panelled library
Through a tunnel of leather and red
To a busy market street
Where I lay helpless in my hospital bed
And all the bright shop windows
Were thick with nickel flies
So I turned to the sun-baked cliff face
Seeking guidance from the wise
Is this how it happens?
Is this how we fade
From one world to another?
Is this how the deal gets made?
But the dreams are dangerous
Enticing you on
So by the time it's time to go
You've already gone
And I can't remember
Stuff you just said from one moment to another
Or whether I'm supposed to be alive or dead
But these dreams (if they are dreams)
Are still pin-sharp in recall
And if I find the way to get there
I might not come back at all
Is this how it happens?
Is this how we fade
From one world to another?
Is this how the deal gets made?
But the dreams are dangerous
Enticing you on
So by the time it's time to go
You've already gone
That Vox guitar/organ looks absolutely wild, never heard of such a beast - I think I picked it out in the mix. I think - was distracted by the song itself, heh. One heck of a song, personal and real and just so dang good.
