Story behind the song
Carillon was composed after the Palmerston Road church in Earlsdon, Coventry, Warwickshire, was demolished to make way for a new block of flats. Originally a 'temporary' mission church of the church of St. Thomas (itself long-since demolished), this 'temporary' Anglican church was hurriedly completed in 1913 so as to be ready before the Methodists' Church already at that time being constructed in Albany Road, and as such was the first church built in Earlsdon. I keep three pieces of broken brick from the site as relics. The church was situated behind the house of my former piano teacher Constance Olga Elliott (1929-2009).
