Story behind the song
Music by Dave Claridge, words by Pete Rand
Lyrics
He lived a life of chemistry and charms of Formulas to keep him safe from harm Blind from looking closely Deaf from listening too well Dumb from speaking wisely Living here in heaven and hell and just like him, today the magic's gone shivering through the haze of winter sun She lived a life of certainty To be unloved and undone until her god left her to fate shivering through the winter sun How to measure the dark if there is no dawn How to measure love, when a heart is torn Blind from looking closely Deaf from listening too well Dumb from speaking wisely Living here in heaven and hell We live a life apart from all we know No shining star arose to guide us through She lived a life of certainty To be unloved and undone until her god left her to fate shivering through the winter sun Blind from looking closely Deaf from listening too well Dumb from speaking wisely Living here in heaven and hell

Very well crafted song that does reminds me of The Strawbs (you do say they're a band you like). I do too. Are you sure Dave Cousins didn't sit in on the session :). I have The Strawbs, Brave New World, LP somewhere up in the attic. I'll have to dig it out and enjoy it again. Lovely acoustic guitar sounds.
Outstanding lyrics!
