Story behind the song
Sara, Aaron and I were going camping on my buddy Mark's property. Upon entering the campsite we had to drive up through a steep field full of wild flowers. As Aaron is going up he sticks his arm out of his window and grabs a bouquet's worth, then hands them to Sara when we reach the top. She then turns to me and disappointingly says “you never bring me flowers”. Cliche as flowers may be, I still needed an instant excuse, so I replied “look around baby...I bring you TO the flowers!” Aaron yelled “write it!
Lyrics
You don’t learn a lot about Venus and Mars Growing Up in the Mountains and the honky-tonk bars Darling I love you cause you can forgive The hillbilly ways that I’ve learned to live And I know I don’t buy you fillet on a plate I’d just rather spend time with you on the lake And our walls don’t have paintings of sunsets and fields But we can go camping all night on a hill It seems more romantic to cherish these hours I may not send you roses but I’ll bring you to the flowers Now I’m looking forward to memories with you The places we’ll go and the things that we’ll do Sometimes you cuss me but sometimes you smile That’s all it takes to make it worthwhile Chorus Oh just think of the day when our hair’s turning grey And we’re rocking our old front porch swing And I’m telling grandkids crazy things that we did I hope your memory brings you to the flowers We’ll remember the days that we spent on the lake The sunburns and bass-boats and campfires and rain And our walls will hold pictures of sunsets and fields From the nights we put up that old tent on a hill It just seems more romantic to cherish these hours I may not send you roses but I’ll bring you to the flowers I may not send you roses but I’ll bring you to the flowers Oh to the flowers Yeah I’ll bring you to the flowers
