Sabastian Roberts will soon release his second record, featuring a beautiful duet with the talented and famous Lorrie Morgan. Back in Nashville, this time wit
As far back as I can remember I’ve been a performer driven by an inner need to convey my feelings to others. I’ve thrived on entertaining people and found great joy in bringing a smile to their faces - in sharing laughter, love and even tears. Growing up, my childhood was far from comfortable. However, if my parents had one thing in common, it was their love of music. For Mom it was Janis Joplin, Roberta Flack, and Fleetwood Mac. While for my Father it was the country sounds of Waylon, Willie & Johnny Cash. Music became a refuge from my family turmoil and by the time I was fifteen, I was writing my own songs and performing in bars. Over the years, I’ve played a wide variety of music from Top 40 rock to blues, country and even heavy metal. Regardless of musical genre, I believe that performers have a responsibility to their audience and to their fans. It pleases me to say that one constant across all of my musical performances is the pride I’ve taken in giving my audiences a great show! In return, I’ve been rewarded many times over with their support, love and encouragement as I pursued my musical dreams. Recently, I had the opportunity to work with Tommy Tutone (of “867-5309 Jenny” fame). Together, we cut a five-song demo that created quite a buzz in the Nashville music community. My voice was variously described as “big”, “bluesy”, “powerful”, “country”, "smokey" and even “jazzy”! Well, the demo that Tommy and I recorded eventually led me to Mark Oliverius, an exceptional producer who was able to help me truly “find my voice”. Our musical collaboration resulted in this CD -- Unwanted Man. I have tremendous respect for all of the wonderful singers and songwriters who’ve come before me. In pouring over an incredible amount of material for this project, I wanted to give something back to those artists whose music has been so influential in so many lives - including my own. You might say that this mix of southern rock, country ballads and good ol’ butt-kickin' music is an homage to those songwriting greats. It’s definitely a collection that sings to me! While I love all the tracks on this recording, I’m especially proud to have contributed my own composition, “He Lied”, which I wrote about my less-than-perfect relationship with my Dad. I also feel privileged to have been able to sing with the legendary Lorrie Morgan. When you listen to our duet on “Dress For The Rain”, you’ll know why I’m so excited about her participation and friendship! Unwanted Man is the product of a long but rewarding musical journey. I hope that you - my valued friends and fans - will enjoy listening to this music as much as I enjoyed making it for you! Sabastian Roberts Spring 2010

Story behind the song
Hailing from Minnesota, Roberts was exposed to a wide range of music as a child. He took the first steps of his musical journey early in life. At age 15, he was writing his own songs and performing in local bars. In the following years as a performer, he played a wide variety of music from Top 40 rock to blues, country and even heavy metal. But his roots and his heart remained in country and he travelled to Nashville in 2008 to launch his country music career in earnest. His first studio EP, It is What It Is, launched onto the country music scene in 2009. It was a true breakthrough in every sense. Music legend Tommy Tutone, the hit songmaker from the 80s and best known for 867-5309 Jenny, lent his expertise to produce It Is What It Is, and the record was soon topping the independent charts. With It Is What It Is, Roberts offers a unique mix of 80a€™s, rock and country music smashed into one rockabilly sound that defies convention. Building on traditional country styles, the EP fused rock and country music in a way that made the industry prick up their ears, and it served as the perfect platform for launching a career. It Is What It Is is a a€˜saddle up and hold ona€™ gallop. Tracks like Chicken Fried Mistake, Burnin' Hot Tonight and the moving ballad Reach Out And Touch Her resulted in over 18,000 hits on MySpace in just four days. Sabastian Roberts was on his way. Working with Tutone was highly gratifying for Sabastian: a€œI was honored to have Tommy on this album; all the pieces came together when he came aboard.a€ Unique musical style: Country with a rock attitude Sabastiana€™s music will strike a chord with a wide audience with his combination of good-time country, soulful ballads and tales of love, loss and life. His uniquely deep and rich voice is his instrument and he uses it to great effect when he sings of the joys and pains of lifea€™s journey. His singing is equally powerful when ita€™s time to get up and dance.
