Story behind the song
I first got the idea for the title after visiting Thorncrown Chapel in Eureka Springs, Arkansas several years ago.
Lyrics
It was no polished chromium cross, He was no gold-plated icon He was God in human flesh and blood, And that blood was staining the ground He was no common criminal, But they beat Him like an animal And yet He whispered, "Father, forgive them, For they don't know what it is that they do." CHORUS 1: Thorncrown --- it was a crown of thorns He wore Thorncrown --- it was a heavy cross He bore Thorncrown --- He was the Lamb that was slain, He bore the stain of my sin... Oh, Thorncrown. It was no sanctified stained glass scene, He was no sad story in a magazine The Lamb of God, the Son of Man, The suffering Savior, the great I Am (Repeat chorus) CHORUS 2: Thorncrown --- it was a crown of thorns He wore Thorncrown --- it was a heavy cross He bore Thorncrown --- He was God's one sacrifice, He paid the price of my sin... Oh, Thorncrown.
