This was one of three songs that appear on the Like a Bird Released album that were written via me sitting down with the lyric sheet and playing around with chords and melody until I heard something that I liked. Originally in the key of A, the song was then raised to C# to match Cooke's vocal register. The recording is deliberately sparse and deliberately 70s in tone. The key instrument is the flanged electric piano. As soon as co-producer Michael Carpenter dialled in that tone we knew exactly which direction we wanted to go.
