Lyrics
In the Line of Duty © 2008 Wild Bill Austin Verse 1 A single shot invades the evening air. A crowd was standing by and watched him fall. The expression of surprise there in those fading eyes, Is a vision I will, long, recall. As he fell, a car door opened wide. A woman asked to have a word with me. Why'd I have to go and shoot him down When he was needed by...his family? Lift If only I could bring him back, to stand trial, and have his day... People at the scene were in jeopardy; there was no other way. Chorus In the line of duty, we find the greater good, Then do what we have to do--not always as we should. Sometimes, it will not matter, whichever course we choose. When there's violence in the air, There('re) so many ways to lose. Verse 2 For forty-seven dollars and some change, One misguided soul had lost it all. I watched the scene, playing in my mind. Again, I saw him close his eyes and fall. The Coroner spoke softly as he told me, That the victim, still inside, was doing fine. His assailant, though, had lost his final battle, And just a while before, ran out of time. Bridge And just what is our role in all these desperate acts of greed? Should we give from some of what we have to lessen what they need? Break Chorus Lift Sunday October 12, 2008
