Fog Ain’t Liftin’
It’s getting’ light outside – after such a heavy night
Been livin’ thru a nightmare - got me such a fright
In my dreams there’s strange creatures
Watchin’ me with their peculiar features
They been probin’ my skull - thru my thoughts siftin’
Think I’m awake now - but the fog ain’t liftin’
I’m lookin’ in the mirror tryin’ to work on clear recall
But the details are slippery – or there not there at all
In my dreams everything was so vivid
But it’s faded now – colours less livid
I know for sure those beings are still out there driftin’
Got a start to my day but the fog ain’t liftin’
Outside standing alone in the damp and chill
Sickly sunbeams tryin’ in vain to spill
Sillouettes slippin’ in and out of the mist
My absence of memory continues to persist
Don’t wanna scare the horses but things keep shiftin’
Sun’s over the yardarm but the fog ain’t liftin’
Shufflin’ down the street with my collar turned up
Visions of dancing imps in my eyesight corrupt
What was that she said when we came to part
“When I’m gone from here you’ll be back at the start
To you, troubled sleep is the prize I’m giftin’”
I’m back on the treadmill and the fog ain’t liftin’
