Simply Christmas (vocals by Lisa)
A song that calls us to remember why we're really celebrating...Jesus really is the reason for the season! Eric sings this better than I do, but here's my slightly more country/bluegrass sounding version.
Contemporary Christian/Gospel
Hi...I'm Lisa Crum and I'm a Christian songwriter.
Story behind the song
I guess what inspired me to write this song was all the contraversy that year in the "political correctness" concerns. Although it's the celebration of Christ's birth, the retail stores were so very careful to label it just a "holiday" so no one would be offended. One town in our state even had a nativity scene minus the Christ Child before mass shock and disapproval shamed the town officials into putting the baby in the manger! What's to become of us if we can't be free in this nation to publicly acknowledge our God and His Son? Anyway, after much thought over all these efforts to shut Jesus out of the celebration (while raking in billions of dollars in commerce for the "holiday"), these words just rolled out. It's not meant to be a negative message; just a plea to return to what the season was intended to be. Enjoy your trees, your snowmen, your Santas and your gifts, but enjoy Jesus too! He inspired it all!
Lyrics
SIMPLY CHRISTMAS
Verse 1
Busy, busy people
So much to do
The world’s biggest birthday party
Everyone’s invited but You
Where did we go so wrong
How’d it get so far gone
We need You back where You belong
Chorus
I’ll hang a star on the tree
Decorate my windows
Make some golden memories
To look back on tomorrow
There’ll be snowmen and Santa too
But they won’t take the place of You
It’s not just a “Happy Holiday”
To me it will always remain
Simply Christmas
Verse 2
So I’m making changes
Lightening my load
Goin’ back to fundamentals
Down that lesser traveled road
In spite of what they do
It all will be for You
Jesus You’re the reason
I can celebrate this season
