Story behind the song
This is inspired by, written for, and dedicated to Susan Rouse of Raleigh, NC, who has become one of my dearest friends and for me epitomises what is meant by the phrase 'Southern lady'.
Lyrics
DIXIE’S DAUGHTER CHORUS She’s Dixie’s daughter, true earth mother Nature’s child with laughing eyes She’s a lady, a Southern lady Hides a world of wisdom behind her smile V1 She’s sunshine, she brightens up your day Packs up your troubles, sends them on their way When your anger’s cold as ice and your temper’s hot as hell The sound that brings you round’s the voice of that sweet-toned Southern belle CHORUS INSTRUMENTAL BREAK V2 Ever since she was a little girl She’s wanted to throw her lovin’ arms around the whole danged world She’s at home with the high and mighty, loved by the lowest of the low An angel without wings, just honey-filled from head to toe CHORUS HOOK She’s got a heart as big as all the sky above And she gives it to the only man she will ever love CHORUS
