Story behind the song
The title of the song is “Princess.” The reason it is named as such is because the song was inspired, at least in an emotional sense, by the novel “A Little Princess,” by Frances Hodgeson Burnett. The story tells of a young girl who is separated from her father during the First World War and forced to endure various hardships while awaiting his improbable return. The father, who is an officer in the British military, must leave his daughter at a boarding school and report to the front lines, as it were. The essence of this sacrifice touched me in a powerful way; so powerfully, in fact, that I proceeded to create this song, all the while visualizing that sorrowful moment when father and daughter part ways and, afterwards, that joyous moment when they are reunited.
