Story behind the song
A list-making person, I started to write down things I needed to do to in order for me to achieve financial independence. The original melody was always in too awkward a key for my voice... but the morning after passing my Yellow Belt Rank Test I woke up with this energetic and determined piano. I wrote it down, fit the lyrics to the chord progression, and "Squeezed" was complete. :)
Lyrics
I need to write an independence draft A type of life constitution That will point me forward when I go aft And clear the wrath of confusion And its okay for me to take A week or two to clear my mind But when I lose focus and mistake Rainy weather as signs I've gotta REFRAIN: Push myself beyond Go where I'm not wanted Leave the space I'm squeezed between Or end up where I started Monthly income and my resume printed on French vanilla paper Pre-made payment stubs and business cards Enough to pass out as party favors A schedule so it fits my life Tailored for all directions This is gonna get me beyond the iron gates of hell Into my own dimension REFRAIN (2x) BRIDGE: You know the harder they fight The closer you are To having it all What they never had You know the harder you fight The harder they fall But it won't matter when The dove lands in your hand So damn tired of the recipe The good girl cookie cutter While there is a lot of good in me No I'm not as soft as butter Know that in the days that you've known me I'll still always be kind But that doesn't mean I have reservations About leaving this cocoon behind REFRAIN Or end up where I started.
