SUPERKNIGHT: SIR GEORGE SHEARING- A Real SuperHero
7 Comment Share
SuperHeros are not always fictional. Sir George Shearing is a prime REAL example. Blind from birth, he achieved GREAT music fame as a pianist/composer. Sir George was renowned for "locked hands" playing; was made OBE in 1996; and Knighted in 2007.

Story behind the song
Sir George Shearing (1919 - 2011) was an Anglo-American Jazz Pianist (best known for his "Lullaby of Broadway"); he became one of the best known Jazz Pianists of the post-war era. His first big hit, with the original George Shearing Quintet (formed in 1949), was "September in the Rain". In 1952, he wrote "Lullaby of Birdland", an ode for the legendary New York Jazz Club - and named for classic Saxophonist Charlie "Bird" Parker. Sir George Shearing played for three U.S. Presidents and the Queen of the United Kingdom as well as countless fans around the World. Upon his knighthood, Sir George said: "Receiving such an honour as a knighthood might also show young people what can be achieved in life if one learns his craft and follows his dreams". SPECIAL NOTE: This song is for the Coconut Blues Club (CBC) SuperHero Song Challenge on 1/25/14 @ 9PM/UK on SoundClick.

Great piece of music and a very nice background story to it. The music has a nice uplifting mood and the progressions are flowing smoothly. Love it!
That's my kind of hero! Love the slightly retro-feel and sound to this one, you can tell a lot of thought went into crafting that sound. Bravo!

Great tribute to Sir George Shearing, a creative track indeed, happy that someone thought about the "Music Hero" too!! :) I was just listening to Shearing´s "September In The Rain" sung by F.Sinatra ( following the song-info of Dr. Bob ), and thought by myself... "Super-Heroes" for true those guys.....!! Thanks for sharing with us Dr. Bob and JBBQ´s guys!!
