Story behind the song
See the Light (Hebrews 12:1&2) (Copyright 1986) Words and Music by David L. Jones Written in 1985. Revised in 2000 by changing just a few phrases in the first verse, otherwise pretty much like the original in '85. I started to redo it in 2000 and pretty much had the majority of it done (digitally on my computer) when I began to have some hard disk problems. I burned an image of my hard disk on a CD (or so I thought) and reformatted my hard disk. Yes, you know what happened next. As Providence would have it, I had a scratch mixdown of the tune, which I transferred back to my computer, and was able to complete the horn parts and add the solo electronic trumpet nearly two years later from when I started. The idea of the tune is to continue to keep your eyes on the prize, as the apostle Paul stated. Because of our human nature we have a tendency to lose our zeal for the Lord as time progresses - even to the point of taking our Salvation for granted.
Lyrics
V.1 Do you remember? It wasn’t very long ago. You lived to please Him and that’s the way your life would go. Your friends would whisper. They’d say, “The kid is not very bright.” You’d try to tell them of the moment you had come to See the Light See the Light V. 2 As you’ve grown older your dreams have slipped between the years. Mirages fading, it’s all no longer very clear. Fast forward video, no longer seeing black and white. Persisting question: Did you go blind or just refuse to See the Light. See the Light, See the Light. V.3 The world is waiting caught up in trouble and in fear. A thousand questions – a million waiting open ears. We have His promise: the deaf to hear, the blind to sight. Resist concession. See the hills and valleys all made right, See the darkness turn to morning bright, Know the Way, the Truth, the Only Light. Because then you, too, shall come to See the Light. See the Light, See the Light. You’ve got to see His Light. See the Light. No more darkness, Light of the World.
