Dawn has not yet broken
As she whispers, dreaming
Star-lit is the night sky
Earth is still in sleep.
”There will come a day
You will say you’re leaving,
When the birds are flying,
Winter warmth to seek.”
As the day is dawning
She awakes to listen.
“Are the birds returning,
Are they homeward bound?
Will we meet again,
Or should I stop believing?
Is it in the new land,
Happiness you’ve found?”
One more year is waning
Memories remaining
Living in her silence
Gazing at the night
Woken by that day
Visiting her dreams,
When the birds to summer
Took to wing in flight.
