Mr Grumbold playing a mad medley at the 'The Dale' in Seacombe, 1976. Rescued from a cassette tape as I'm sorting out the basement!
Original songs from the mid to late 1970's. My first adventures in songwriting and performing. Good times
It exists therefore it am. They came from inner space and left no turn unstoned. The journey began and nothing was ever the same again (or during). Are you ready to cruise with the Spaceship Vicar?
Story behind the song
I believe this to be Mr Grumbold's farewell concert at 'The Dale' in Seacombe, late in December 1976. A tape of songs that I have is sadly only playable on a couple of songs... this being one of them. But happy memories. I mean how often do you hear songs about plastic pigs dueling to death with faceless wooden tortoises linked in a melody to mindless bunny-hop rockin polka, played by a quintet of drums, bass, violin, guitar and toad-generator? And all this when I was still in my teens. LOL
Lyrics
The Scrap
( Adrian Pratt & Paul Maylor)
See there on the hill
A little piggy standing still
If he's still then he's alive
Because keeping still's the only way he can survive.
He's a little piggy on a plastic stand
The sort of little piggy you find in a band
Don't let this piggy lead you astray
Because this little piggies only plastic anyway.
See there on the hill
Terry the tortoise is feeling ill
He's vomiting and coughing like a bat out of hell
Surely this tortoise can't be well
If he could find a doctor it would do no good
Because this tortoise is only made of wood
Pig stares at tortoise with an air of distaste
Tortoise maker hasn't carved in tortoise face.
(guitar solo)
See there on the hill
Terry hits piggy on the bill
Piggy says, "That's not nice"
So the tortoise does it twice
He stabs the pig with a rather sharp blade
And conks him on the brain with an enourmous spade
Pig smacks tortoise on the head
So both the animals end up dead
The Rabbit Polka (Adrian Pratt)
Well if you should go there on a Saturday night
The chicks are really cool and they get it allright
Some are pretty young, some a lot older
And they all know about rabbit polka
They do the rock
The rabbit polka rock
Romp all day, Romp straight away
Rabbit Rock
Every night when the air is getting hot
The rabbits start grooving, you ought to see them hop
Leap on a bike, Jump out of sight
And move on into the night
They do the rock
The rabbit polka rock
Romp all day, Romp straight away
Rabbit Rock
If you get a chance to come down the hall
Let yourself go and have yourself a ball
If you get the urge to move to rabbit polka
Well come on, come on, just let it take you
Do the rock
The rabbit polka rock
Romp all day, Romp straight away
Rabbit Rock
Come on rock etc....
