Story behind the song
My wife had a grandfather they called PaPa Brown. He was the country gentleman. My wife comments all the time how I remind her of him. I heard so much about him I had to write a song. It was a "labor" of love with much editing of the words, many which did not make the cut and the music side was fun but difficult in places for all the instruments in the studio. If you are a musician, try playing along with it. Capo second fret in the key of D.
Lyrics
Whatever happened to Papa Brown? Tipping his hat to the ladies in town. Give the kids a quarter every Sunday when they'd come around.... The world was a better place with a Papa Brown. Whatever happened to Papa Brown? He never met a stranger in the Hartselle town. Have a cup of coffee, what's your hurry, stay until the sun goes down... The world was a better place with a Papa Brown. Holding hands with his wife in a swing over grassy ground. Listening to the willows blowing out their breezy sound. The world was a simple place for a Papa Brown. Whatever happened to Papa Brown? Working in the garden and tilling his ground. Wave to perfect strangers as they're passing through the Hartselle town.... The world was a better place with a Papa Brown. Holding hands with his wife in a swing over grassy ground. Listening to the willows blowing out their breezy sound. Yes, the world was a simple place with a Papa Brown. I was tipping my hat to the ladies today. Waving two fingers as they're looking my way. Holding hands with my wife sitting close on a ride to town. She said, you're starting to act a lot like Papa Brown. Holding hands with his wife in a swing over grassy ground. Listening to the willows blowing out their breezy sound. The world was a simple place with a Papa Brown. I said, the world was a better place with a Papa Brown. End.
