Story behind the song
Almost a year to the day (feb 12th) this was recorded at a tribute gig me and my family arranged in aid of the West Cumberland Hospital ITU ward where sadly, my dear Gran Viv Ross passed away in 2009. The gig raised over £2000 for the ward and all the nurses were there on the night.
Me, my brother and cousins have always joked of having a 'family band', well after going through what we did after 2 weeks in the hospital at my Grans bedside, I came out with 'we should do it, lets form a family band and do a gig for Gran'. So we did. Over a few months we met up and practiced and I practiced this song a hell of a lot to try to do the gig justice. My two cousins live 150 miles away so practice was arranged both down there and up here.
For me, this is the hardest song Ive ever attempted to play and I was nervous because of the significance of the night and difficulty of the song. The fact it was one of my fav songs by one of my fav guitar players and the fact it was a tribute to my Gran, it had to be the best I could do. My brother tried so dam hard he totally blew his voice out a few days before the gig on this song. We put everything into the gig and our efforts help raise over £2000 for West Cumberland Hospitals ITU ward. Thank you too all who were involved.
This recording was captured on a handheld recorder pointed at the band. Sadly from all the videos we got of the night from my uncle...the only one that wasnt on film was this song....
"Family Affair" was My brother on vocal and bass, me on guitar, my two cousins on drums and guitar.
Setlist on the night;
Thin Lizzy- Dancing in the moonlight
RCHP- Scar tissue
Gary Moore I Had a Dream
Thin lizzy- Still in love with you
