Some of Vilancicos’ melodies, as well as their texts stem from the work Auto das Pastorinhas, collected and reconstituted by Ceicao de Barros Barreto. This work reveals a contrast between the popular text and pastoral melodies, by one side, and the Latin texts and ecclesiastical melodic form used in such cases.
