acoustic folk roots traditional mandolin
Artist picture
Welcome to the mandoverse. It's quite compact but it has a big heart. Everything here is translated into mandolin: punk and pop, rock and roots.

Story behind the song
This is a medley of 'The Girl I Left Behind Me' and 'Simple Gifts'. The first tune originated in he Brithish Isles but by the time of the American Civil War it was used as a marching tune by both sides. 'Simple Gifts' made the journey the other way. It started out as a Shaker dance tune but was adopted as the melody for a hymn by the English songwriter, Sydney Carter, and became 'Lord of the Dance'.
