Story behind the song
I was thinking how beautiful was the area I was born in. From the mountain top the town below took on a golden hue from the suns rays. Although scarred with the mines and tradgedies over the years it still holds it's beauty and its people in my best memories.
Lyrics
On the mountain, the beautiful mountain, Looking down on the honey town, We can drink from the cool clear fountain On it's way to the river in the ground. On the river, the beautiful river, Where the children skim the stones, in sparkling water with flashing silver, 'Til the women call them home. Did I live here through the ages? Did I love here in my time? Did we tender to our babies All in the bosom of the mine? (Instrumental) In the valley, the beautiful valley, There's a darkness coming from the hill. People crying, there are many. Small black bodies lying still. Did I live here through the ages? Did I love here in my time? Did we tender to our babies All in the bosom of the mine?
