A sort of fantasy radio station ID.
indie solo
This is just my own solo stuff. I do this crap mostly for my own amusement and/or as songwriting/production/arranging exercises. I don't how to categorize myself since I'm liable to try absolutely anything that catches my fancy, from indie-punk to '70s TV theme spoofs to ambient atmospherics. It's all here for you to enjoy, and if you're not careful you might get a headache before it's done, hey hey hey.

Story behind the song
WDY was a very early radio station, owned by the fledgling RCA corporation, licensed in 1921, and operating from the Marconi Wireless radio factory in Roselle Park, New Jersey. Like most other early stations, WDY went dark fairly quickly, in 1923 or '24. But what if it hadn't? thought a long-haired, eccentric Ohio native one night nearly 90 years later as he walked his two dogs (one looking very much like RCA's "Nipper", but with more black splotches in his coat) near the Romerovski Bros. warehouse on Westfield Avenue in Roselle Park, New Jersey (which had once been a Marconi Wireless factory and home of a certain early radio station). What if, instead, WDY had survived to become a thriving AM station, perhaps a homegrown top-40 contender to the behemoths broadcasting out of New York City? It would have needed a catchy jingle. The longhair mulled this idea over as he scooped up piles of warm dog$#!+ on the way back to his apartment. Once the dogs had been unhooked and rewarded with treats, he immediately went to his computer and set to work, using recording tools unheard of in WDY's day. The result is the present track, which you probably could have played at least five or six times in a row while you've read this ludicrously overbaked song description. The time period I'm aiming to evoke here is the early to mid '70s. Everything except the voices and bass guitar here are being produced by VSTi plug-ins. I added a large amount of compression to the final mix to mimic the sound of an old tape. Trivia: just a few blocks from the old WDY site is a real radio station, albeit one of those public information type stations operated by the city government of neighboring Cranford. WPQK596...operating on 680 kHz.
