RECORDING=PERSONAL STUDIO A rocking tale of betrayal and revenge. My attempt to write something in the vein of Bob Dylan!
Soulful Beach Groove music following in the footsteps of Van Morrison, Eva Cassidy, Bill Withers, Jack Johnson, Elton John and Sting... with a French twist!
Story behind the song
I was hired to provide musical introductions and interludes to one-act plays performed by a troupe of actors in LA. This song was orginally just one verse but would not be left alone. After the play was over, I came back to it and fleshed out the story.
Lyrics
If this story got any funnier, I would scream
If my life got any more hilarious
I would gladly step in front of a bus
If this story gets any funnier, I will scream
‘Cause you’re not who the hell you said you were
Oh, could you be any funnier?
Now you’ve had your laughs at my expense
And you’ve ruined my very best chance
And if things got any funnier, I would scream!…
4-BAR INSTR.
I came into the city
With a name my father gave me
He said you could be trusted
As the kin to a dearly departed
Well, you saw my lack of experience
And you abused my confidence
Soon were gone the money
The good clothes and the dignity
Now, thanks to you, I am no more
Than another wave crashed on the shore
Another dream gone up in smoke
The punchline of another joke
And, if it gets any funnier, I will scream
8-BAR INSTRUMENTAL
In many years, when I return
You’ll see my face as you crash and burn
You’ll beg and plead and wonder
I’m sure you won’t remember
And this will make it even funnier as you scream!
Na, na, na…
