It's about the union of apparent opposites. It was written in 1978 while I was camping in the desert, realizing that only when our eye is single can we truly live.

Original songs about religious tolerance and freedom, liberation, independence, peace, and justice -- Jeffersonian in nature.
More recent recordings of these songs, with better arrangements and with more instrumentation, can be heard at http://www.soundclick.com/Jeffers. (Click ) The songs here were his first recording attempts and are just first takes recorded in early 2009 when the now 73 year old artist's health was steadily declining. He felt he was dying, so he finally picked up his guitar again after 26 years of not playing or singing, and recorded as many songs as he could while he could still sing and play just enough to do it. Since then with a new diagnosis and medicines his health improved a bit and he can breathe a bit better, so he has been working, whenever he was able, to improve the recordings and the arrangements, and record them on a better, 8 track digital portable studio recorder. It was kind of touch and go, but when he had relatively good days he did what he could and he finally produced a better 12 song album that he is a little more satisfied with. But, even as they are the songs here also deliver an important and crucial message --- because the lyrics of the songs are even more relevant now than when they were written more than 30 years ago. Lyrics
IT TAKES TWO Once upon a time, I really wanted to say, Hey, listen my friends, I have found The Way. But then I came to find out, ultimately, Each and every one of us, we all have our own key. I was never in a place I was not meant to be, There are two sides to life, I just had to see. But if you don't believe me, just look at your past. If there were one without sin, the first stone could be cast. But it can take two currents to make electric light, And when the two flow together there is no fight. But the two strong forces in this universe, Are in opposition when the poles are in reverse. And for the wisdom colored gray we mix black and white, And there are shades of gray between wrong and right. And no matter what we do we'll never please them all, So I try to harm no one at all, and try not to fall. * Chorus: Yes, it takes two to make a union, Like the yin and yang, and the man and woman. There is no positive without the negative, But, when our eye is single we can truly live. I think good and evil are created in our own mind, Just like the notion that we're not one of a kind. So I just follow my heart, and cast away my doubt, And all in good time may find out what it's all about. But some people fear a devil, say you'd better beware. They say at every turn that devil's left a snare. But I don't listen to the ones who bend our ear, Because the biggest snares are bigotry, hate, greed and fear. I think evil's biggest playground is our ignorance, And the Tree of Life is our best defense. Of course we all know the world is loaded with sin. But we reap what we've sown, and that's the mess we're in. But it will be alright when we plainly see. The future will get brighter as we learn to be. So close your ears to the preachers of doom, There's a new day comin', and we'll all see it soon. (* Chorus) Yes, it takes two to make a union, Like the yin and yang, and the man and woman. There is no positive without the negative, But, when our eye is single we can truly live. Copyright © 2009 - 2010 Try Try Again Project (TTAP)
