Melodic/progressive/alternative rock with an epic quality to it.
What is a name but a word or phrase given to a thing to represent it and to provide others with a first impression? Such is Smile and Nod. It’s another name for another Austin rock band. But a name serves this simple purpose only until it is given a new meaning, a new essence a life and world of its own. And now the moment for first impressions is past. No longer is Smile and Nod merely a phrase. It is the gateway to a brilliant new world filled with powerful songs that move with unprecedented passion throughout the land, heart and soul. Each is led with climactic vocals backed with smooth, tasteful drums. The bass is lush and the guitar is sweetly melodic. Such music would touch the emotions of an audience of all ages. They’ll crave more. This is a brilliant new world indeed, and Smile and Nod has introduced it. The music is melodic/progressive/alternative rock with an epic quality to it. It’s inspired by the hopes and fears, and the triumphs and tragedies of the members of Smile and Nod. Together they strive to create music much larger than them, each contributing an intimate piece of themselves to every song. When Smile and Nod performs its music music that is held so close to its heart a passionate gift is being given to all within earshot.

Story behind the song
They come at night, when you're most vulnerable and when there's absolutely nothing you can do to stop them. You can't scream. You can't cry out for help. They'll come again and again.
Lyrics
It always seems to happen Beneath the weary eyes of the night sky, Beneath eyes that look as if they are about to cry. It always seems to happen When the Moon Turns it's guardian's gaze, It's guardian's glow Away from an exhausted Earth down below. There is no comfort from above, No one to provide a prudent patrol. And so the darkness Goes forth to consume everything - Land, heart, and soul. That's when the creatures of the night emerge! When the Intruders slip out from under the shadows, Their mouths dripping with a taste for torture, Leaving behind them a slippery trail Of discontent and discord. ...And the night smiles upon them... ...Gives an approving nod to sadism... They arrive at just the right time, Following the path That the footsteps of relief have worn. They come to my home. They wait outside my window, And outside my door; Behind my pillow, Beside me on the floor. They wait until my thoughts Begin to move faster than the Earth, When there's nothing to prevent them From climbing into my head. Then they move in... They slip in While I'm lying motionless in bed. Darkness begins to swarm into my mind As they proceed to rip away my thoughts, Replacing them with some of their own. ...I can't move. All I can hear is them laughing, And crying. I hear them screaming, And sometimes I can hear them growling - Growling with a voice so frightening That even the blades of my ceiling fan Refuse to rotate any further. The terror radiates throughout my home, Passes through my skin To settle deep inside my stomach, Weighing most of my body down. It nestles itself a comfortable depression, Making ready for the next time The Intruders decide to come around. ...I can't even cry for help. ...And I have not a soul to beg for aid. If only I could see the light of day come sooner. If only - But I can't. And when I finally collect enough strength To break free from their paralysing embrace, I scramble out of bed, Out of my room. And then I tremble. I shake. My eyes dance around the walls, Leaping from shadow to shadow - So fearful of seeing any more of those creatures slip out. ...And they will. Sooner or later, they will. ...The Intruders always do.
