Story behind the song
Socrates is an exploration of the uncertainty, unfairness, and often tragic nature of life - and the realization that even though there is bad, there is good that often come from it. The minor chords of life can help us appreciate the major chords. Eventually, I hope to make this a central song in a musical I'm (trying) to write.
Lyrics
'Life goes on,' she says, and pours the cream into a cup of java 'Sometimes life is short, and sometimes life can burn, that much is for certain.' It breaks her heart to hear the minor chords And separated tones It doesn't matter how they heal, a scar's a scar is still a scar It's so hard And in the night, The pale moonlight casts' shadows on the shore Ghosts appear Like smoke from burnt out cigarettes, They burn Life's like bittersweet, life's a dash of nightshade in your tea (a deadly tease) and fate's the wine that paralyzed the mind of brilliant Socrates (Lord please!) Take the time, Remind me please of sunny southern skies And lullabys Don't condemn The good for being bad, you know The rain must fall but it soaks into the ground Where love is found
