Story behind the song
About this song:
John Caraway comments, “To write a great song about Texas is very challenging and has always been one of my goals as a songwriter.
I love Texas with its showplaces and friendly people and sights to see. Texas is like a Country within itself.”
John Caraway is still calling country music a hobby. Five songs from his recently released CD "In Every Texas Showplace" have become No.1 hits In, England, France, Belgium, Germany, Norway, Canada, and the Netherlands, and he's sti1l calling it a hobby.
Dubbed the “Ambassador of Texas Country and Western Music” by an overseas music critic, Caraway said he's just taking his music career one day at time. But, admittedly, he's optimistic.
Caraway, the man of many guitars and the voice of the quintessential cowboy, is the embodiment of the word humble. Shy and somewhat self-deprecating, Caraway points to pictures and music memorabilia hanging on the walls of his studio, careful to explain each piece in detail. "I never thought I'd even come this far," Caraway said. "I just wanted to cut the CD for fun, but I can't say I'm not excited."
A native Texan, Caraway, lives tucked away in a brick home in Westminster with his wife Margie. Raised in McKinney, Caraway said he's proud to live in a small Texas town. "It’s the way of life here that I love so much," he said. An electrician by day and a musician by night - that's the way it's been for Caraway for' the last 40 years. "This is so overdue for John," his wife Margie said. "He has wanted this so bad for so long, and I am so happy for him. We don't know what's going to happen, but we are hopeful. Only the good Lord knows what's in store for John. He's on cloud nine right now, he enjoys it so much."
Caraway started playing music when he was 14 years old and has honed his talents ever since. His father played the steel guitar and the guitar, and Caraway said he "just kind of picked it up as I went." He has played in bars with greats like Boxcar Willie and said his inspiration is George Jones. But don't tell him he sounds like anyone famous. "I don't want to sound like anyone else, I mean they've already been there and done it, you know, made it famous," Caraway said "I just want to sound like me.”
As for making it big in the United States, Caraway said he doesn't know if and when that will ever happen, but he's keeping his fingers crossed, His publicist has faith it will happen. In fact, he's currently submitting the CD to the Nashville music circuit.
"This couldn't happen to a better guy; John Caraway's New York-based publicist Harry Eckert said. John is just one of those guys that you want to see great things happen for. I have never seen something like this happen in my 20 years of doing this, Not just one hit is making it, five or six are making it. His future looks bright, that much is certain.”
"So far I haven't heard one negative thing: Caraway said, but like I said, I'm not worried about it I'm still having a good time, and that's what matters.”
One of the songs on the CD titled "How Could I Make a Lady Like You Cry” was inspired by a roadside scuffle Caraway witnessed on his way home one night. "This girl and her boyfriend were just arguing away, and she was just a pretty little girl crying her eyes out, and I thought, how could he make a girl like that cry?” So I pulled over onto the side of the road and wrote the song. “Caraway said, "It took me about 15 minutes but that's what inspired that song:
Everybody, at some point, has probably wondered how musicians come up with their lyrics Caraway said he just watches and listens. "Everybody at some point will say something catchy, something you've never heard before, you just have to pay attention”, Caraway said. “And I like to watch what people do; that's the stuff that inspires music.”
One of the tracks on his CD, "Our Soldiers Are Heroes" is currently being consideration to become the theme for the Purple Hearts, a military
