Story behind the song
I wrote this song on a moonlit night while out feeding my horses. She Went Anyway is based on the true story of a young settler family in Eastern Oregon and the hardships they endure-check out www.joeshinkle.com for the full story!
Lyrics
He rode out at midnight said he was feeling blue the moonlight seemed to call to him that way but he wasn't fooling anyone I knew she was on his mind her memory still haunts that man today The old folks around who'd seen it all claimed it the damndest thing how a woman loved a man the way she did and the old men 'round the checker board wondered in their hearts how against her father's wishes she'd gone anyway -chorus_ She went anyway she left all she owned to be with him a rich man's daughter some called her love for him insane but through her Daddy's rage and all her Mama's tears She Went Anyway... "There's nothing for you out there your going to stay right here" "But Daddy, can't you see I love him so" so at a table set for two each night they thanked the Lord above for all they ever needed was each other The fields widened out, the fences up the winter stores put in working side by side until the sun had set and the house he built with his two hands would keep the coming baby warm she never had a moment of regret -chorus- And though her Daddy said "I told you so" and her Mama cried "I told you not to go" he said "The baby's fine, but please don't slip away... But She Went Anyway
