Lyrics
Coca-Cola has come a long way since its 1886 debut to being the worlds largest beverage
company today. The Coca-Cola Company comes from humble beginnings just a short distance
away from where the companies corporate headquarters are located today in Atlanta, Georgia.
The syrup used by Coca-Cola was first made on May 8, 1886 by John Stithe Pemberton,
and was first sold in Jacobs’ Pharmacy for five cents a glass. Eventually as if by accident the
syrup that John Stithe Pemberton created was mixed with carbonated water creating Coca-Cola.
The name Coca-Cola name was created by Pembertons partner and bookkeeper Frank M.
Robinson thinking that “the two C’s would look good in advertising. Never realizing
Coca-Colas full potential and in need of money Pemberton began selling some of his interest in
the company until the time of his death when Asa G. Candler bought the shares Pemberton had
left behind.
After the death of John Stithe Pemberton Atlanta druggist and business man, Asa Candler
saw the potential Coca-Cola had and gained complete control of the company in 1891. Asa his
brother John Candler, Frank Robinson and two other partners created the Georgia company we
know today renaming it The Coca-Cola Company. In 1893 the Coca-Cola Symbol created by
Frank M. Robinson was patented and since then many of the other familiar symbols we associate
with Coca-Cola have also been patented such as Coke. Candler greatly contributed to the
popularity of Coca-Cola by creating the first syrup plant outside of Georgia in Texas, Illinois and
California resulting with Coca-Cola being drunk in every state in the United States. During the
same time Joseph A. Biedenharn was experimenting with an idea that would eventually bring
Coca-Cola to the entire world. He installed bottling equipment in his store and started selling
Coca-Cola made from syrup delivered to his store. This brought forward more people that wanted
to bottle and market the product. In 1899 Benjamin F. Thomas and Joseph B. Whitehead of
Tennessee attained exclusive right to bottle and sell Coca-Cola in virtually the whole United
States.
One of the most recognized aspect of Coca-Cola after the familiar logo is the shape of its
bottles. The original contour bottle was created in 1915 after many people where making similar
shaped ones. The original bottle was created by the Root Glass Company. In 1977 the Coca-Cola
company was giving a patent for the bottle which is very rare. Many other packages are also
associated with Coca-Cola such as the six bottle carton or bell shaped drinking glasses in 1929.
Coca-Cola debuted family sized bottles of their soft drink in ten, twelve, and sixteen ounce
denominations. Coke also introduced the plastic two liter bottle and the plastic contour bottle.
The Coca-Cola Company has had a long standing relationship with sports thoughout the
years. One of Coca-Colas longest affiliations has been with the olympic games which started in
1928. The first year the United States Olympic team brought Coca-Cola with them was also the
first time the olympics held a cerimonial lighting of the flame. Coca-cola has also held contest in
the recent years to allow fasn to carry and pass the olyimpic flame.
Coca-Cola also has affiliations with other sport companies such as Fifa. Fifa is th worlds
premire soccer league. It sponsers the world cup the womens world cup as well as the FIFA
youth leauge. Other affiliations include the NBA, NASCAR, The Rugby World Cup, and the
NHL.
Coca-Cola also conrtibutes to communities and children through there charities. The
Coca-Cola Foundation was created in 1984. In 1989 they begun to focus on education. The
foundation supports art and children to stay in school. Coca-Cola also is associated with
