Story behind the song
The idea for this song came when a neighbor invited Brad to the first Tea Party in Hendersonville, TN on April 15, 2009. One of the speakers got up said, "We have no one to blame but ourselves". This phrase so inspired Brad that he came up with the idea of making "Liberty" a woman that goes out on him and commits spiritual adultery much like Israel of old committed spiritual adultery against God. Together with Pam Gudgeon, Brad was able to put lyrics to music and this song was born. This song was chosen for 2 compilation CD's that benefit the families of soldiers that have died in recent wars through www.americasmightywarriors.org. Anne Marie Harpen also sings back up on this cut with Greg Gilmore on mandolin.
Lyrics
When I was young, I fell in love
With an ocean lady all dressed in green
She held a torch for me, or so it seemed
And her name was Liberty
When I grew older, I found I was deceived
She turned and she left me for a merchant from the sea
Like the droning of a foghorn she was blowina019 lies at me
The spirit of my Liberty
Liberty, why did you leave me for the lure of an evil eye?
Did ya have to sell your soul for money and a lie?
Liberty, you know Id take ya back if you would only change.
Show me that you care for me, Oh Liberty!
I searched the ocean deep and climbed a mountain high
Tryin to understand the answer to the why
Then I heard a voice from the Land of the Free
You can blame it all on you and me!
Liberty why did you leave me for the lure of an evil eye?
Did ya have to sell your soul for money and a lie?
Liberty you know Id take ya back if you would only change.
Show me that you care for me, Oh Liberty!
Liberty why did you leave me for the lure of an evil eye?
Did ya have to sell your soul for money and a lie?
Liberty you know Id take ya back if you would only change.
Show me that you care for me, Oh Liberty!
Just tell me that you care, Oh Liberty!
