Story behind the song
The idea for this song came in the early 1990's when Brad was traveling through the Rockies. He vowed one day to return to the Rockies and one day settle there. While in Nashville, TN in 1993, Brad played the song for Country singer John Michael Montgomery's band. The whole band got up and slow danced with their sweethearts to the song. After the song was over, the band's bass player told Brad that he thought that this song was the definitive cowboy's song saying, "It is what every man wants to tell his woman, and what every woman wants to hear". After meeting and marrying his wife, Pam, together they rewrote some of the lyrics to make it a little more romantic (and as Pam said 'appealing to women') and the rest is history!
Lyrics
I'm a poet and a singer,
You know I've always been a dreamer,
Now that I've found you,
My dream is comin' true
Our love is growin' sweeter
If I could promise you my undyin' love
The sun, moon and stars above
Would ya follow me,
Help me live my dream
Out in the Rockies?
I'll buy a cabin in the mountains,
Split some wood and build a fire;
Then I'll hold you close
And we could make a toast
To our heart's desire
I know these vows will stand the test of time
With my strong will, your peace of mind
You bet Ill find a way
Find us both a place
Out in the Rockies.
In the summer we could ride on a thousand acre spread
In the winter we'll stay warm and safe there in our bed
Now I truly hope you understand what I'm really tryin' to say:
Would ya follow me, help me live my dream
Out in the Rockies?
You bet Ill find a way, Find us both a place
Out in the Rockies.
