Story behind the song
Wanted to try my hand at one of those round-the-campfire type songs that people will sing for years to come (well.... at least until tomorrow) This is the tail of what can happen if you leave home un-prepared as a teenager. (first hand experience)
Lyrics
1st Verse Mum & Dad had said goodbye My Aunty Jean began to cry Be sure to write, I know I’ll try I said so long and winked my eye This small town won’t see me back I’m heading down that rail road track I feel my life’s been out of whack It’s time to put things to right Hey, hey 2nd Verse Found a place to lay my head a single room with a single bed gave up wine to eat instead whatever’s given to me some days high and some days low the only food is what I stole things were moving from worst to bad no way I’ m calling my Mum and Dad I won’t give up and I won’t give in I chose this life and I got to win It’s no good thinking what might have been I had to go my way Hey, hey 3rd Verse I keep on thinking that this can’t last Cause I’m in trouble and sinking fast If only I knew how much time had past Maybe I could change my way Can’t blame people who put me down But I can’t keep moving from town to town Must keep swimming or else I’ll drown I need my space gotta hold my ground This small town won’t see me back I’m heading down that rail road track I feel my life’s been out of whack It’s time to put things to right 4th Verse This small town won’t see me back I’m heading down that rail road track I feel my life’s been out of whack It’s time to put things to right things were moving from worst to bad no way I’ m calling my Mum and Dad I won’t give up and I won’t give in I chose this life and I got to win It’s no good thinking what might have been I had to go my way
