Very high energy song about competitive sports, but has plenty of application to any other areas of competition you encounter. No religious references in the song, though the concept of being your best is Bible based.

Soloist. Songwriter/singer. ASCAP member. A NICE WITNESS FOR CHRIST There is an extensive interview of me done by Scott Crawford, at . Do not let the site name alarm you. It is an "adult-themed music and entertainment" site. It is not a porn site, and you will not get tagged for spam if you go there. Scott is a journalist of integrity, who asked pertinent and penetrating questions, then printed my answers verbatim. Both God and His son received much attention in the interview. REVIEWS: "Fancy keyboard playing is the backdrop for this positive and upbeat collection. Hackley's vocals are reminiscent of Burl Ives." Review by Brent Castillo, The Wichita Eagle, March 5, 2005. "world's wimpiest Christian rocker". Brother Russell Podcast; : INFLUENCES (a very lengthy list, ending with...) "and of course, Richard Hackley." "Yet the songs on the Worst of the Worst can be compelling in their awfulness. Songs like Richard Hackley's rabble-rousing, hackles-raising spiritual God's Backhand ("We're not talking about tennis or Ping-Pong!") "; "Richard Hackley... HUGE musical influence. And a real bad mofo live.";

Story behind the song
When my son was a member of a college yell leading squad, I wrote this song.
Lyrics
(v.1) When you are locked into competition with the best of the best, When everyone is out there to prove that they are better than all the rest, (c.1) Stay resolved and focused. Don’t let your courage give in. You didn’t come here for second place. You came here to win. (v.2) All of those long hours of practice, of finding your limit, then pushing past... The other teams were doing that same thing, also. And whoever is satisfied first, will finish last. (c.2) So fire your engine up and keep it running hot. All of that practice has taught you, you can give it more than you thought (bridge) You’ve become ... an awesome machine You've become ... a precision team... ... ready to claim its dream (v.3) Pressure will keep on increasing as you get closer to the end. That’s where so many throw the contest. They become afraid of losing instead of hungry to win. (c.3) But pressure can be your inspiration. You can use it as a springboard. Take that pressure and make it lift you up to where they hand out the award. Stay strong to the end.
