Story behind the song
Pretty self-explanatory. Just thought this happens to a lot of people and wanted to write a story about it.
Lyrics
1st Verse:
G C G F
Johnny was my best friend from first grade until when
G C F G
I saw him kissing Debby, in the hallway.
G C
Well Debby was my girl and
G F
I couldn't stand for that,
C G
So my friendship with both of them was over.
Chorus:
G Am
But I didn't know it then,
C G
I thought I didn't need anyone.
G Am
Didn't know how to forgive and
C D G
I was just burning bridges.
2nd Verse:
G C G F
The best job I ever had was working side by side with my Dad,
G F G
But I thought my Dad, he was just too demanding,
G C
That job I should have loved it, but
G F
I told my Dad he could shove it.
G C G
So that turned out to be a bad ending.
Chorus:
G Am
But I didn't know it then,
C G
I thought I didn't need anyone.
G Am
Didn't know how to forgive and
C D G
I was just burning bridges.
Bridge-interlude:
G F
To the ones I loved. Mmmmuh
To the ones I loved Mmmmuh.
Musical interlude
Final Verse:
G C
Well Johnny and Debby are married today, they
G F G
gotta new baby coming their way.
C G
And I can see that they are happy.
G C
Daddy is working all by himself,
G F
got my old work gear, there on his shelf.
C G
And I can see he still needs me
Final Chorus and Ending:
G Am C G
I didn't know it then, I thought I didn't need anyone.
G Am C G
I needed to learn again, to forgive and build bridges
G F
back to the ones I love, oh mmmuh.
G Am C G
I didn't know it then, but I've got to build bridges.
