Story behind the song
Christians, myself included, often do a bad job of being an example of Christ. They make names for themselve as hypocrits or idiots- for not even being able to answer people when they ask why they believe what they do. A lot of supposed Christians think they can go to church every sunday and say the "ABC" sinner's prayer, and they get Heaven. We insult Christ when we package faith that way- we are lying to ourselves and others. This is a confession, a wakeup call for other Christians, and an apology to non Christians, for whom an often bad example has been set of Christ.
Lyrics
Photographs in my hand, this is where I come to find what lovely is. And do You cross my mind? I’m afraid of myself when You’ve been pushed aside, because when death comes, I’ll have no place to hide. When what we’ve made You is an excuse for our shame, Your Grace diluted down to a prayer we pray in our own name. Nothing more to us than just an hour on a pew. My bad luck started before the mirror shattered. And pride always leaves us high and dry so that nothing else matters. I can’t purchase Your Grace with all that I could do. And all my beautiful is just so ugly next to You. When what we’ve made You is an excuse for our shame, Your Grace diluted down to a prayer we pray in our own name. So much more than just an hour on a pew.
