Story behind the song
Written when my cousin was brought into his fathers funeral in complete shackles with prison guards. It was heartbreaking.
Lyrics
They led me in the church house wearing shackles and chains
I stood at daddy's casket and I cried out in pain
I was crying cause I wasn't there when Jesus called him home
I was crying cause he left this world knowing my poor soul was lost
They sat me in that church house where everyone could see
From the sinners to the saints Lord they all cried for me
I sat there in my silence and I hung my head in shame
Sorry for the way that I had carried my daddy's name
and I cried
I cried Oh Lord, take these shackles from me
Free me from sin's bondage and set my soul free
They sang about amazing grace that could save a wretch like me
The same sweet song daddy taught me as a child upon his knee
They led me from that church house with a peace I've never known
Saved by the grace of God, I'll meet daddy at the throne
Oh, Lord you took the shackles from me
You freed me from sin's bondage and set my soul free
