BURN IT DOWN
I planted trees to try and block the view
No matter how I tended them they never grew
First thing every morning, first thing I see
Is that crumbling old house full of memories
Pain and heartache and tragedy
Seem to fill it's rooms like a bad disease
When the pain brings me down to my knees
I remember what mommy said to me
She said
Sometimes I'd like to burn it down
With every bad memory that abounds
But baby girl I have found
Memories like that won't be pushed around
There gonna rear their ugly head
Until the day that you are dead
You gotta be strong enough to knock them down
When they rise up from the ashes
Look them straight in the eye
Don't let them see your fear, don't let them see you cry
Do what I've done all my life
Stand your ground and save your matches
So when I get weak and think I'll just pack it up and leave
I remember what mommy said to me
She said
Sometimes I'd like to burn it down
With every bad memory that abounds
But baby girl I have found
Memories like that won't be pushed around
There gonna rear their ugly head
Until the day that you are dead
You gotta be strong enough to knock them down
When they rise up from the ashes
Look them straight in the eye
Don't let them see you fear, don't let them see you cry
Do what I've done all my life
Stand your ground and save your matches
I tried everything to block the view of my childhood home where daddy committed suicide. Nothing worked. It was finally burned to the ground.
