Story behind the song
Several weeks after Sept 11, I was on Broadway; they had just re-opened the sidewalks I noticed a makeshift Memorial pole that had flowers, candles pictures. Then, I glanced downward and beyond the ornaments to see a real bicycle chained to the bottom of the pole. It was said that this bicycle belonged to one of the unknown Mexican delivery boys.
Lyrics
TIJUANA BLUES Got to the city when he was seventeen You know what I mean No job, no home, no money, no friends But he didn’t care   He’s never giving up His New York dancing shoes He’s gonna live it up No mas Tijuana blues No mas Tijuana blues   Back home known as Pedro His Mother’s loving son Father put food on the table By working on a farm   He said this isn’t the life My Son was meant to life His mother prayed Jesus Christ My son has got a gift, so why don’t you Let him know   BRIDGE: Ain’t it strange how we sometimes feel The power of God comes with your next meal   CHORUS: LEAD:   He took a job at the coffee express and diner Delivering food Low pay hard word long hours If I have a good day I might make ‘bout fifty bucks
