drums, sitar, poem (shorter version than before)
Ophelia Brown is a poet who likes to marry music with words. She writes mostly free verse.
Story behind the song
It was a hazing evening and we had a meteriod shower. I was about to meet my boyfriend at 3am to examine the night sky and this poem came to me just before I left the dorm. I was very much in love.
Lyrics
Colorful Nights
He calls me to bed
To sleep in dark firm sand dunes,
Slick oceans of moist desert valley,
Ridges with steep drops
And rounded plateaus.
Simon says that Ia€™m beautiful
Like Venus de Milo and savagely kind
Like natives off some rocky Atlantic coastline.
A thousand soldiers man my borders
And he is the only one (with the key to the city) who can enter the city.
This room is empty like the surface of a vast moon,
But copper eyes see a lighted tent in a darkened
Galaxy, surrounded by brush and sand that spans
Many miles of black desert.
He says when I move, I move to the sound
Of cautious tambourines and rapacious
Drums, drones that rebirth old souls
With ancient architecture and spiritual joneses
Like a boom jank a tank.
My curves are deep valleys
With grooves that sharpen minds.
Boom jank a tank
Boom, boom
Jank a rat-a-tat tankle jing jing-a-sway
Brilliant corals and sponges change the mood.
Tinkle tat a tat tisk tisk
It is the landscape of each new corridor
In his world,
The Seminole winds
Create dimples in time
And wrinkles in the oceans.
The folds of my heart
Bleed brilliant reds
From the crowded shroud
Of colorful nights
Boom bom, boom bom, boom bom,
Jank a tankle
Boom bom jank a tankle
Boom boma€¦boom boma€¦
Boom, boom
Jank a rat-a-tat tankle jing-a-sway
Boom bom jank a rat-a-tat tankle
(boom boom)
Jing-a-sway
