An upbeat but melancholy tale of a man whose heart is frozen in time because of the love he left behind. With a southwest flavor, this tune makes you feel like rolling down the highway.

Story behind the song
Many have asked me, if the song is called Poor Man's Eldorado then why does it also mention a rusty old Monte Carlo? Well, I got the idea for the song while driving. I spotted an old Monte Carlo and remembered a car magazine article that stated the old Monte Carlo was a poor man's Eldorado. I just started singing the chorus, "Rolling down the highway...". I pretty much wrote the song right then, driving my minivan.

POOR MAN’S ELDORADO

THE BOTTOMS OF MY BOOTS THEY NEED REPAIRIN
I’VE HAD THE SAME TWO PAIR OF JEANS FOR ABOUT A YEAR
I QUIT SHAVIN ON THE SAME DAY I QUIT CARIN
WHEN I THROUGH EVERYTHING AWAY THAT I HELD DEAR
I GUESS I LOST MY WILL
AND NOW TIME IS STANDIN STILL
ROLLIN DOWN THE HIGHWAY IN A POOR MAN’S ELDORADO
MULLIN OVER ALL THE WORDS I COULDN’T SAY
DON’T KNOW WHERE I’M GOIN AND I DON’T CARE ABOUT TOMORROW
CAUSE MY HEART STILL BELONGS TO YESTERDAY
MY SUITCASE IS GETTING FRAYED AROUND THE CORNERS
EVERYTHING I OWN IS GETTING WORN
ONE DAY I PACKED MY BAGS AND I DIDN’T WARN HER
AND LIKE THE BACKSIDE OF MY JEANS MY HEART IS TORN
SOMEDAY I’LL LET IT GO
BUT TIME IT GOES SO SLOW
GETTING WHERE I’M GOIN IN A RUSTY OLD MONTE CARLO
GOT NO PLANS I’M JUST LIVIN DAY TO DAY
I DON’T THINK AHEAD CAUSE THE FUTURE IS FILLED WITH SORROW
CAUSE MY HEART STILL BELONGS TO YESTERDAY
I GUESS I LOST MY WILL
AND NOW TIME IS STANDIN STILL
REPEAT CHORUS 1:
REPEAT CHORUS 2:
WELL MY HEART STILL BELONGS
YEAH MY HEART STILL BELONGS
MY HEART BELONGS TO YESTERDAY
A great up tempo beat coupled with some wonderful fiddles and a smooth slide guitar - overall a nice country tune.
