Story behind the song
Laurel Music Camp sings a grace before each meal, which over the course of a week we also learn to say in sign language. It's a very beautiful song, short but sweet. I arranged that song for a brass sextet. The opening is a little intro before the trumpet takes the first time through with the soprano line. The other instruments sustain chords underneath. A 2-bar bridge leads over to another short interlude. We modulate to the dominant for the second time through of the melody, this time in the horn. The underlying harmonies are more like the ones we sing at camp now. We then go into a sort of development, teetering between tonic and dominant before playing strong, unison G's which slows into the final time of the melody, this time everyone playing their respective vocal part. The horn and euphonium alternate between a descant line I added in. The final "Amen" is a fast little flourish before a pause releasing into the final G major chord. Instrumentation: 2 trumpets in b-flat, horn in f, trombone, euphonium, tuba
