Upbeat message about the benefits of humbleness. Contains a fun insert at the start. A Facebook friend, Mary Kay H., recorded a short spoken script for me, expressing shock at hearing the word " b*** " in a Christian song. She did a great job.

Soloist. Songwriter/singer. ASCAP member. A NICE WITNESS FOR CHRIST There is an extensive interview of me done by Scott Crawford, at . Do not let the site name alarm you. It is an "adult-themed music and entertainment" site. It is not a porn site, and you will not get tagged for spam if you go there. Scott is a journalist of integrity, who asked pertinent and penetrating questions, then printed my answers verbatim. Both God and His son received much attention in the interview. REVIEWS: "Fancy keyboard playing is the backdrop for this positive and upbeat collection. Hackley's vocals are reminiscent of Burl Ives." Review by Brent Castillo, The Wichita Eagle, March 5, 2005. "world's wimpiest Christian rocker". Brother Russell Podcast; : INFLUENCES (a very lengthy list, ending with...) "and of course, Richard Hackley." "Yet the songs on the Worst of the Worst can be compelling in their awfulness. Songs like Richard Hackley's rabble-rousing, hackles-raising spiritual God's Backhand ("We're not talking about tennis or Ping-Pong!") "; "Richard Hackley... HUGE musical influence. And a real bad mofo live.";

Story behind the song
My FaceBook friend, Geoff Wyhopen, (see his Christian website @ www.thelindberghchildren.com) provided the inspiration for the decoder ring analogy during one of our FB chats. He even provided the scripture basis, Luke 10:17-21, "Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, 'Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.' And He said to them, 'I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven. In that hour Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit and said, I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to babes."
Lyrics
(v.1) Jesus sent out the seventy, with orders to b*** -slap the devil. They returned victorious, their trust in God at a new level. But Jesus rejoiced over something else, the Father's revelation of spiritual things To those who have the heart of a child, to those who have on their decoder ring. CHORUS (1) Not a plastic trinket to wear on your finger, but a priceless attitude to wear on your heart. The willingness to listen to the Lord. The willingness to think you're not so smart. (v.2) Paul used an expression, as powerful now as it was back then, If God could ever be foolish, He'd still be wiser than men. Do you want some access to that wisdom? Put on your decoder ring. Then watch yourself win more often as you grow in understanding. CHORUS (1) (v.3) Accepting Christ is the first step to get your free decoder ring And access to those brilliant code-breakers on the best deciphering team. There's God, the Bible, & your spirit. They have the codes you're looking for. Call on all three. They work as one. There is no inter-agency turf war. CHORUS (2) Not a childish trinket to wear on your finger, but a child-like attitude to wear on your heart. The willingness to listen to the Lord. The willingness to think you're not so smart. ----------------------------unused lyrics & notes--------------------------------- (Intro) The Lord told Jeremiah, "Call to me and I will show you mighty things." Jeremiah called, and from that point on, wore one of the Lord's decoder rings. (v1) Remember those prizes in cereal boxes? Remember the decoder ring? Mom lets you put a box in the grocery cart. Then, at home, you start digging. Now you can read secret messages. You've become part of a group. The decoder ring lets you see what others don't. It brings you into the loop. (v2) (mood change in music. Some tension) But years go by, and secrets get harder, beyond what childhood expects. You find questions, rather than answers. The codes get more complex. Do I have purpose or meaning? Is there a reason I even exist? Topics not covered by Tony or the Cap'n. Topics they purposely missed. (v3) Can mankind continue inflicting pain, and imagine he will always be alive? Will earth one day implode so completely that even the roaches won't survive? Will there be an after-life? If so, will it be better? Is it possible for swarms of people, to somehow live together? (v4) (mood change in music. more relaxing) Time for a new decoder ring, where your questions ALL get addressed. Time for powerful code-breaking to give your heart some rest. Put all man's opinions in a cereal box. Label them "Unreliable". Then dig down through those corn flakes, and extract your Bible.
