Story behind the song
This piece of poetry was inspired by working in Womens Refuge as a child advocate seeing women predominantly Maori who are beaten by both their partners and society... been conciously aware of the place of women in society in my own community and also worldwide... Maori women in NZ like other ethnic minorities are the least paid have the lowest skills and qualifications... Maori women make up 75% of the statistics of women in NZ prisons although we culturally make up only nearly 12% of the NZ population... Maori are over represented in NEgative stats.. 1 stat how ever, is that Maori women consistantly and overwhelmingly contribute to voluntary work...which in NZ saves the government over 32 million dollars plus a year... This song/poetry peace is about understanding today and strategically making moves to better tomorrow for wahine/women... Peace love n family

Pounamu = Green stone a precious piece of stone found in Aotearoa NZ traditionally symbolic of treasure, gift anything and all those things precious... adze tools, and also heir loom necklaces of tiki were made from them... on one angel used it is the hardest stone and can brake through other stone or used to chop wood but hit on the wrong angle will shatter like glass.... in Maori mythology all the different types of greenstone were all women, the wives of Poutini the taniwha that resides in the west coast area... where pounamu is mostly found...anyways yup thats it...also a line regarding 'graces self lynch' refers to the movie once were warriors when grace hung her self in the back yard of the family house........ all in all its a positive piece I wrote and done like um... 5 years or so ago lol funny
