A song about dreams and individuation, and the encounter with the 'Shadow' and 'Anima' Jungian Archetypes in the unconscious. OK, so it's pretentious and over-produced, but I like it and that's what matters most!

Hi, I've been writing songs since I was twelve years old, and recording them since 1985. Roger Cook (of the Cook-Greenaway-Cook songwriting partnership and Blue Mink, etc) once wrote that I have the ability to write a hit single and that he was waiting for one from me. He also said I need to 'lighten up a bit', unquote. F*ck that!

Story behind the song
This song has been kicking around since 1998 and was originally uploaded here as 'Russian Doll' (a rushed job for a movie produced by Jane Devoy), but my intention was always to do a full large-scale prog-rock production job on the song. The thunderstorm at the beginning was recorded one afternoon in 2005, when a lightning strike hit a pylon less than 50 yards away, causing a power spike that fried my graphics card. This goddam song has been worked on with four different computers! I have blogged a dream diary with roughly 500 dreams in it to date, and there are two distinct phases in the path of 'individuation' (it's in wikipedia); one is the encounter with 'The Shadow', followed by the 'Anima' (both also in wikipedia). C.G. Jung referred to the encounter with the Shadow as the 'apprentice-piece' and the Anima as the 'masterpiece'. Now I understand why he called it the masterpiece... If anyone out there is interested in dreams, drop me a line by email and I'll send you a link to the blog. But be warned, some of it is NOT pleasant reading!
Lyrics
(Wait for the night) There's time before the day begins (Wait for the night) We can search for hidden things Let's take a look At what's going on in the world of dreams (Wait for the night) There's a journey we can share (Wait for the night) The road could lead us anywhere The moon is out So let's explore what's behind the scenes Behind the veil are all our fears A tidal wave, a flood of tears Let's go searching for the hidden trail Let's leave tonight and go hunting for the Holy Grail (Wait for the night) We're turning over stones and rocks (Wait for the night) To find the key to open locks If hope remains It's worth opening Pandora's box (Wait for the night) Hope is a lady dressed in white (Wait for the night) Someone to guide us through the night Let's take her hand And walk towards the morning light The Golden Fleece, the Quest for The Grail The Valley of Death where Demons prevail The road to Heaven leads you through Hell The treasure's found in the bottom of the deepest well (Wait for the night) (Wait for the night) (Wait for the night) I might be afraid of you (Wait for the night) But I won't run away from you (Wait for the night) I might be afraid of you (Wait for the night) But I won't run away Even if I'm scared of you Behind the veil are all our fears A tidal wave, a flood of tears Let's go searching for the hidden trail Let's leave tonight and go hunting for the Holy Grail Wait for the night The Golden Fleece, the Quest for The Grail The Valley of Death where Demons prevail The road to Heaven leads you through Hell The treasure's found in the bottom of the deepest well Wait for the night
