Story behind the song
The album was needing something different to round it out. Enter Surrender Dorothy. This song was inspired by a painting created by a friend of mine. The painting is called Surrender Dorothy. It’s one of the uncertain moments in the movie (Wizard of Oz) when it seems that all might be lost, it contains the flying monkeys and crystal ball, it’s very dark. So I spent time in that moment of the story, the really scary part of the dream before you wake up. In the song the voices are saying sweetly, “Surrender Dorothy”, but we know because the story ends well, that Dorothy must not surrender, no matter what’s promised, even though the voices are sweet and enticing, promising luxury if she only gives in, they are false. I think that’s why I can explore that darkness, I know the story ends well.

Surrender, surrender, surrender Dorothy
Surrender, surrender, surrender Dorothy
For you can’t go home again
Surrender, surrender, surrender Dorothy
We’ll give you diamonds
To take away your tears
You’ll be rewarded with sunshine all your years
But you can’t go home again
Surrender, surrender, surrender Dorothy
Bright sunlight drifting in
To a day full of love
Sweet poppies waving in the sun
La la la la la la la la la
Surrender Dorothy
Surrender, surrender, surrender Dorothy
Surrender, surrender, surrender Dorothy
For you can’t go home again
Surrender, surrender, surrender Dorothy
La la la la la la la la la
Sweet poppies waving in the sun
La la la la la la la la la
Sweet poppies waving in the sun
La la la la la la la la la
Sweet poppies waving in the sun
La la la la la la la la la
