"Tumbling To The Edge" was inspired as I watched a giant Loggerhead sea turtle being washed ashore after being injured. "A Vigil Kept" is a tribute to the sea turtle volunteers all over the world. "Ocean's Edge" asks what is it that draws us to the shore and the sound of the waves. "Steal Away" Is about two young girls exploring the possibilities in life.
Lyrics
Tumbling To the Edge
There's a new pile of sand
on the beach
just outside
the water's reach
what lies beneath
is very sad
for it marks the death
of a Loggerhead
she washed ashore
on a windswept wave
but alas
it was too late to save
this majestic creature
from the deep
who now is in
a permanent sleep
endangered though they may be
their lives are spent
on the open sea
exposed to sharks
and ships that sail
and men
who sometimes fail
to take the time to care
be ever vigilant and aware
so let this be a wake up call
that all God's creatures
great and small
deserve protection
so they may, one day
crawl up the beach
with eggs to lay
and after sixty days
emerging from their nest
a tiny head appears
first one, two then all the rest
tumble down
to the water's edge
where they'll explore their world
on a sandy ledge

A Vigil Kept
Gentle souls
caress the earth
and purge the eggs
of sea turtle births
new lives
make their way to the sea
swimming with dolphin
and manatees
some have hatched
and some are gently intercepted
by ever watchful volunteers
their tiny lives are redirected
to then scamper out to sea
successfully
successfully
their awesome task has mounted
but
a vigil's kept
till all are counted

Ocean's Edge
What draws us
to the ocean's edge
where the surf crashes
on a sandy ledge
where we stand and stare
out into the blue
while the sunset explodes
in magnificent hues
where couples linger
hand in hand
leaving footsteps
in the sand
where sea spray
bathes our mind and soul
what draws us here
what is our goal
beckoned in some strange way
some never leave
others return
day after day
what draws us
to the ocean's edge
where the surf crashes
on a sandy ledge

Steal Away
While no one's watching
steal away
down the canal
and out to the bay
floating
on dreams and memories
carried
by a soft summer breeze
as puppy dog clouds
come drifting by
against a panoramic sky
destination still unknown
never mind...
the world's your home
