Lyrics
One worked the cattle through the saltgrass on the ranches along the Gulf The other worked the decks and dropped the sails when the sea got so goddamned rough One longed for Denver, the other the Yucatan But they wound up at a bar in Port Aransas and that's how it all began. The Cowboy was drinking tequila, the Captain was drinking rum They found two guitars behind the bar, picked them up and started to strum They asked them to shut down the jukebox then asked them for another round Then the Captain and the Cowboy shut that Gulf coast barroom down. They were singing,it's like tying your horse to a palm tree And sailing on the lone prairie It's like setting the jib on an old chuck wagon And roping dolphins in the deep blue sea The Cowboy sang a song about a bronc horse and the Captain sang about the sea When they both sang together it was a different kind of melody The people stopped drinking and dancing, they couldn't believe what they were seeing It was a cross between a John Wayne movie and the pirates of the Caribbean. It's kind of like tying your horse to a palm tree And sailing on the lone prairie It's like setting the jib on an old chuck wagon And roping dolphins in the deep blue sea The Cowboy he went back to the ranch to pick up his saddle and pay The Captain he walked down to the docks and watched his ship sea They gave all their money to the barmaid and hocked everything they owned Bought a truck and a couple of guitars and set sail for San Antone. They were singing,it's like tying your horse to a palm tree And sailing on the lone prairie It's like setting the jib on an old chuck wagon And roping dolphins in the deep blue sea We're roping dolphins in the deep blue sea.
