Celtic and traditional folk rock band.
Three Legged Dog are a brilliant Celtic/folk-rock band based in the East Midlands who have been amazing audiences on both big festival stages and at smaller, intimate pub gigs with their unique, energetic style, humour and musicianship. We play Celtic and traditional folk, sometimes electric, sometimes acoustic and sometimes rocked up, and occasionally with the odd contemporary song thrown in, but always in our own style, and with a level of musicianship and flair that makes audiences want more! TLD are: TIM FOYSTER - OCTAVE MANDOLA, GUITAR, MANDOLIN, BOUZOUKI, BASS, BODHRAN. Coming from a musical family, Tim has been playing music since the age of 7. His first serious instrument was the bodhran, followed soon after by the guitar. His background is mainly folk music, having played at numerous folk clubs, festivals and sessions, and he spent time busking around Europe. He's played in several folk/ world music bands; Sylvanus (Acid Folk), Hex Hex (Irish, East European, North African), The Scheme (Trad Irish), Finnegan's Beard (Trad Irish), Stranger Fayre (Folk-Rock), Zarabanda (mainly trad Irish with some east European and Arabic influences). Then after an enforced lay off of several years, he says he was very fortunate to be found by Trev and Debbie as the last piece of Three Legged Dog. DEBBIE HERBET - FIDDLE Debbie started playing the violin when she was 7 as a means of torturing her parents. Her first lessons were taken on an old school violin until she inherited an old black fiddle from her grandfather when she was 9. This fiddle still makes an occasional appearance at gigs. A friend introduced her to Irish music when she was 11 but also progressed through the traditional route of classical music and the orchestra. Along the way Debbie has played in various orchestras, including a pit orchestra. She also played in chamber groups and formed a string quartet as a means of getting invited to all the student parties. The dodgy name helped! After a few years playing in folk/rock band Zarabanda she moved on to play in various other rock bands before going into exile in pub sessions where, as well as playing traditional folk tunes, she dabbled in jazz, blues, country and Cajun styles and developed a loathing of Ragtime. In 2006 Debbie received an invitation to play in the Folk/Rock band Three Legged Dog where she met guitarist Trev. After 2 fun and eventful years the band crashed and burned in true rock and roll style. Debbie and Trev sat in the ashes of the old band and decided it was too good to let it die. They recruited the best musicians they could find and now it's better than ever. Long Live The Dog! TREVOR BUCKLEY - ELECTRIC LEAD & RYTHYM GUITARS, ACOUSTIC GUITARS, MANDOLIN, LEAD & BACKING VOCALS Born in Measham, Leicestershire, on 21st October 1960, Trevor started playing guitar when he was eleven years old. When he was 17 he joined the Royal Navy and decided to buy himself a Japanese made Kasuga acoustic guitar (in case he got bored visiting all those foreign countries). The navy is a now distant memory but the Kasuga is still with him. The early eighties saw him in a band called 'Fire and Ice'. This venture was fairly short lived and in 1984 he joined a band called 'On The Loose', playing the pub and club circuit. This was a lot more successful and saw him playing major venues in Leicester, Sheffield, Derby Birmingham and Nottingham. This lasted for a few years but eventually, like everything, came to an end. Fast forward to November 2006 when he was asked if he wanted to join a folk rock band called Three Legged Dog. Against his better judgement he thought, 'why not?', whereupon he met a certain fiddle player named Debbie. This version, alas, fell apart in September 2008 but Trevor and Debbie decided the 'Dog' wasn't ready to die yet and decided to carry on with new blood. The rest, as they say, is history. ANDREW ATKINS - DRUMS, LEAD & BACKING VOCALS,GUITAR Born in Leicester on February 7th 1981, Andi started playing guitar when he was 12, on a 3/4 size acoustic given to him by his sister. He had a few lessons but gave up until he was 17. He started his first band, playing guitar, when he was 21, called "One Fine Day" unfortunately this project never got out of the practice room. He started drumming in 2004, four months after his first lesson; his band ?The Moonrakers? had their first gig. The drums came quite naturally to him. After ?The Moonrakers? bassist quit, Andi took over bass duties and the band found a new drummer and became ?The Outlanders?. They disbanded in 2006 and Andi went in search of a new band, creating ?Insufficient Funds? in early 2007, playing lead guitar and singing lead vocals. They did a lot of gigs on the local circuit for the 2 years they where together. He currently plays guitar with ?The Kafinjers?. Andi joined ?Three Legged Dog? in January 2009 playing the drums, and he's never looked back. ?Three Legged Dog? - music for the tilted generation! SARAH WHITEHURST - LEAD & BACKING VOCALS, BODHRAN, DRUMS, TAMBOURINE BASHING Sarah?s musical interests started at the age of six at junior school. While her friends played with dolls she played the recorder and experimented with lyrics. Writing poems soon turned to music and when at secondary school she learned to play clarinet, which was a very useful tool, as it took her away from the usual boring school day. Whilst at secondary school she also learnt guitar and drums and she played in many a school gig. At the last year of school she did night classes, in singing and vocal techniques, passing at level three. After school she studied music at college in Derby and worked as a karaoke DJ at the weekends. Doing this helped her regain a long lost confidence in her singing abilities, and her search for a band began. During this time she answered an advert for a recording opportunity in Southend-on-Sea, where for a few months she recorded vocals and composed MIDI tracks in the studio. Back in Derby, whilst working as a barmaid, she met a saxophone player who mentioned that he was creating a band to raise money for the homeless. Jokingly she asked if he wanted a singer and when he said yes, she found herself singing for the needy. The project eventually died out but the experience had given her the impetus she needed to find the right sort of musical outlet that she craved. She placed an ad online and it wasn?t long before this was answered by Trevor! And, in her own words, ?Thus began my reign of terror as singer of Three Legged Dog?! JOHN McIVOR - BASS, HURDY GURDY, GUITAR Born in London, John started playing bass at the age of 14, mainly at friend's parties and socials. He then played bass and guitar with a few student bands that he'd prefer not to mention. However, he's always been interested in traditional music from around the world, though had never been able to stump up the courage to take up a floor spot! After a bit of time off doing other things, John rediscovered his passion for playing music and joined a local covers band: Subsequently he took up the offer to play bass (and occasionally guitar and mandolin) in the well-regarded Midlands folk-rock band "The Fox Hat". John stayed with them for two years, playing pubs and clubs, and also weddings, birthdays, ceilidhs and other socials around the country. John thinks that the experienced gained with The Fox Hat put him in good stead for his next challenge. After leaving The Fox Hat, John took time out to concentrate on learning more traditional and early music on his newly acquired hurdy-gurdy, in particular from England, France and further east. However, John's fingers were itching to play in a band again, and this led to him being offered (however wisely!) the bass player's seat in Three Legged Dog - and he's never looked back since (and, he hopes, neither have they!) John now lives in Leicester with his wife and small white cat, in a house, which has a copse behind the garden.
