Story behind the song
This tune is about the defining moment when you realize the relationship you are in isn't going to work...it may be after one date, a year, or a long marriage. Inspired by the moment I was riding bikes with my great girlfriend from Paris and realized in a talk we were having that "we just aren't going to make it." The second verse is maybe the best verse I've written: "The dominant factor in relationships is how much to take and how much to give If you take the pulse, you can feel the strain when the pleasure love brings turns to pain"
Lyrics
Tried to pretend the emotion were real I could look the part, I just couldn't feel I could read the lines and stand on stage but our hearts were on a different page Chorus: Tell me why you're feeling love is leaving Cant you see that I want you to stay Cant you see that love is never easy Starting over is not the way And so the search continues A melancholy mix, a temporary fix of love 2nd verse: The dominant factor in relationships is how much to take and how much to give If you take the pulse, you can feel the strain when the pleasure love brings turns to pain Tell me why you're feeling love is leaving Cant you see that I want you to stay Cant you see that love is never easy Starting over is not the way And so the search continues A melancholy mix, a temporary fix of love And so the search continues A melancholy mix, a temporary fix of love
